Sub-Radio:
Washington, DC’s Sub-Radio makes smart, danceable pop rock that’s always expanding its boundaries. The sextet’s high-energy live performances and variety of outstanding vocalists have put them on the map up and down the East Coast. The band’s clean guitars, dancefloor rhythms, and powerful vocals have garnered comparisons to established pop-rock acts like Walk The Moon and Two Door Cinema Club. Multiple songs have been recognized in national songwriting competitions, and Sub-Radio has gigged heavily across the region, playing at the Cherry Blossom Festival, LAUNCH, Celebrate Fairfax, Dewey Beach Music Conference, and Firefly 2017. Following the success of their 2016 debut Same Train//Different Station, the band embarked on a series of monthly singles from April to September 2017. Their upcoming EP Headfirst tackles the 21st century struggle to define relationships and find a community from the high-energy, often goofy perspective the band’s fans have to come to expect.
FIVES:
FIVES was formed in Baltimore, MD by lead vocalist Marc Cashin and keyboardist Matthew White and went through several line-up changes before finally coming together with current members Tom O’Donnell and Billy Toti. The band’s sound is a combination of alt-rock and indie pop.
In June 2013, FIVES released its first independent EP, A Brief History. The album was recorded mostly live at Grammy award-winning Bias Studios, in Springfield VA. The album’s release represents a turning point in the band, propelling FIVES into more live shows and a realization that audiences connected with the group.
In the spring of 2015, FIVES performed a standing room only showcase in Austin Texas during the SXSW Film & Music Festival. FIVES has opened for national touring acts such as O-Town, Airpark, Vesperteen, Coast Modern, The Vespers and performed at YouTube’s Music Mondays concert series. In August of 2016, their EP, “Heart & Thunder” was released to positive attention in the press and industry alike.
FIVES is currently finishing a new EP called LIGHTSHŌ. The band will be playing shows up and down the east coast starting spring of 2018 in support of the EP.
Throwing Plates:
Combining heartfelt singer/songwriter roots with folk-rock grit, Throwing Plates is becoming a regular act among many venues in the Washington area. Created by three gifted musicians and songwriters, the DC based group aptly incorporates fresh musical thinking with memorable melodies.
Throwing Plates was founded by James Britton, Jamie Boyd, and Doug Imhoff; the three crossed paths while performing in DC showcases. Mutually impressed by their talents, they soon began writing songs together. Over the past three years Throwing Plates has independently booked and performed over 250 shows and have received awards from the Songwriters Association of Washington and Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest.
Through their energetic and interactive stage presence, the trio is accumulating a loyal following. In 2015, well-known songwriter and producer Mark Williams was impressed with Throwing Plates, leading to work on their recording debut. The self-titled album was released on July 29th, 2016 and can be found on iTunes, Spotify, and other online retailers.
